Welcome to 2010 …
Just a few weeks ago (actually ten years ago) it seemed we were all concerned whether or not civilization could make the transition into a new millennium. So far, so good.
As a constant theme of my ministry here at Evergreen Community Church, you have heard me say at least two hundred times “There is something special about this congregation and its future.” Or the variation on the theme: “I can’t wait to see what God has up his big sleeves for our future.”
Today as we prepare ourselves for this new year, that theme not only still resonates, but feels like it has a new timbre to it that wasn’t there a short time ago. I firmly believe that as we turn the corner from the past into another year, that we are about to be hit with a revelation of God’s burgeoning intentions for us. Nobody loves us like He loves us … nobody!
A critical piece of our preparation has been prayer and will continue to be prayer. Prayer 2010 will be a major milestone in our congregational life. From Sunday afternoon, January 10th through the following Saturday, January 16th, we have the opportunity to invest as individuals and corporately in the one activity that has the power to change our destiny and usher in the full promises and intentions of Almighty God.
We’re going to pray. For six days from early in the morning until late at night we are going to pray. Singly and in groups we are going to pray. We’re asking everyone who attends our church to participate at least once during this six day period. We will make it relatively easy for you to spend an hour in prayer.
Your part will be to show up and make yourself available. God’s part will be to see the sincerity of our hearts and respond as only He can. With a senior pastor transition coming … with the potential of a new year … with new and exciting opportunities being made available … we need to pray.
