Mothers With Seeking Hearts

MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) is all about meeting the needs of young mothers in our community. Twice each month these mothers gather at Evergreen to have fun together, eat a warm breakfast, work on a craft project, and learn from mentors and from each other. While many of the women know Jesus, the group intentionally welcomes women who do not. Currently, 45 moms are enrolled, and average attendance each meeting is 32.

This terrific community outreach doesn’t just happen. It takes a tremendous amount of planning, terrific execution, and a whole lot of servant hearts. You see, those women bring their little ones with them. On a typical MOPS Thursday, around 40 pre-school children will come to Evergreen with their mothers. A small army of volunteers cares for those children so their moms can enjoy the morning. Joanne James coordinates the pre-school volunteers; Cheryl deBoer coordinates the nursery workers. It takes about 12 additional adult volunteers to provide a safe and entertaining time for the children.

And that doesn’t include the overall planning and coordination, the table set-up, and all the other things that need to happen to provide a positive MOPS experience. It’s an outstanding example of life at Evergreen, and the seeking environment Pastor Phil spoke of in his sermon.
