Phil’s sermon identified Jesus’ favorite church as one that seeks to save that which is lost. To do that, he said, we need to:

1. Value secular people by shaping what we do as a church around the needs of those who haven’t yet come to church or to Christ.
2. Value relationships, because they are the only thing we can take to heaven and they are the best and most effective way for us to help other people there.

On the Evergreen website you’ll be able to read two stories about ways Evergreen people are already putting these ideas into action. You’ll learn about MOPS, a group that works hard to reach out to young mothers in Bothell and the surrounding communities. It’s a terrific example of an Evergreen-based ministry that meets needs and builds relationships.

And you’ll learn about Chuck Goodwin, an Evergreen member whose job takes him into painful – yet hopeful – situations on a regular basis. His story, too, is an example of building relationships in the community and opening doors to those who do not yet know Jesus.
